What a great place! Especially for families! We wanted to drive the historic Angels Crest Highway from La Canada to Wrightwood, and the Chilao Visitors Center is an excellent stop on the way! They have many small exhibits and things for kids to do like touch boxes, lift the flaps, movies, taxidermy and even a couple live animals! The building in itself was super cool!

The staff was incredibly friendly and informative! While the forest is full of countless hikes, there are three tiny hikes from this location that are perfect for kids! Two 0.1 mile hikes with plaques guiding the way and a slightly bigger quarter mile hike. This was the first place in forever that I’ve seen woodpeckers! They were beautiful and got to see AND HEAR them pecking away at trees!

On the way out, be sure to grab some free swag for kids! Smoky Bear coloring books, comic books, stickers, pins, post cards, etc... really a great stop!

I love coming here whether it's raining snowing it doesn't matter as long as they are open even though I see the same thing each time it still is like if it is new to me I enjoy the great outdoors and enjoy the Rangers that are so helpful and giving information about trails and Etc I always take drives up there just because or pass by here when I'm going up for one of my weekly hikes and always have to stop by especially when I am camping at Buckhorn I do come and visit here for their special events such as the nighttime hike or the early bird hiking trail bird watch. The Rangers work really hard or should I say volunteer their time to make it enjoyable for everyone so it would be nice for everyone to keep everything clean and well-maintained and give thanks to all the Rangers for helping in making it beautiful.

This place is shut and falling apart. No facilities, parking lot not maintained, no water, no restroom, etc. The entire area seems to have been neglected. There is no water at any of the surrounding campgrounds. Spigots yes, but No Water so prepare! There are however forest service poop pots at the campgrounds but again, NO WATER -anywhere up there -June 2024

Me encantó, el lugar está hermoso y me gustó la adrenalina que setí al escuchar los coyotes y las hienas cerca de nuestro campamento, sin duda alguna fue una experiencia maravillosa....

The staff is really passionate about what they do. The walk in the woods was very informative. Saw a ton of signs of bears... Scratches on trees, fresh paw prints, scat... The guide was very knowledgeable and shared with the troop... The camp site was good, and the rest rooms were cleaner than I expected at such a location.

Great area to stop by for a rest on the canyons apart from the now closed Newcomb’s Ranch.
